As part of the Troika Drive, Korea Zinc is dedicated to reducing cost and achieving carbon neutrality through renewable energy generation and hydrogen production. In 2020, Korea Zinc became the first company in the refining industry to join RE100 in 2020, aiming to shift 100% of its power consumption to eco-friendly sources by 2050. To realize this goal, Korea Zinc is building a value chain that produces green hydrogen using renewable energy generated by its subsidiary, Ark Energy, in Australia. This hydrogen is then converted into ammonia and transported, and finally transformed back into hydrogen for energy use.
Korea Zinc's subsidiary, Ark Energy, responsible for overseeing renewable and green energy businesses, with a goal of completing 9GW of renewable energy facilities in Australia by 2030. Moreover, Ark Energy intends to generate to produce hydrogen using 1MW PEM-class electrolyzers, with an aim to establish an ammonia supply chain with an annual production capacity of one million tons. Ultimately, the ammonia will be converted back into hydrogen for energy production, thus contributing to Korea Zinc's RE100 goal and hydrogen economy system.
