- Business Information KNOC was founded in 1979 to secure a reliable supply of oil in the wake of two oil shocks that took place in the 1970s. Since the mid-1980s, KNOC has been running oil development projects at home and abroad by pursuing independent capabilities in oil exploration. This has put Korea among the ranks of the world’s oil producers by successfully completing the Donghae Gas Field project in 1988. Currently, KNOC has oil field development projects in 18 countries. As a key player in ensuring ‘National Energy Security,’ KNOC expands exploration of Donghae Gas Field and operates nine oil stockpiling bases containing 98 million barrels of oil, which is equivalent to 107days of oil imports. KNOC is pioneering the Carbon Capture and Storage business in Korea to keep pace with the era of ‘Carbon Neutrality,’ tapping into its capabilities and experience in the field of resource development. KNOC also aims to build new growth momentum in the renewable energy sector by converting the Donghae Gas Field into an offshore wind farm. All employees, including those stationed at stockpiling bases, strive to carry out KNOC’s safety policy to guard against potential accidents at work. At the same time, KNOC is also establishing a smart work environment suitable for the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
