Business Information
SK Forestry was established in 1972 to participate in South Korea's national reforestation project. The company acquired 4,500 hectares of forest land in Chungju, Cheonan, Yeongdong, and Osan to carry out the reforestation project. As company developes, the Osan forest was excluded, and the forest in Hoengseong was added, resulting in the management of approximately 4,500 hectares of forest land and 4 million trees. SK Forestry's commitment to sustainable forest management has been recognized with the Korea Forest Management Certification from the Korea Forest Service and the PEFC certification from Europe.
With over 50 years of experience and expertise in forest management, SK Forestry has expanded its efforts beyond its own lands to other forests domestically and internationally. Starting in Cambodia in 2011, the company has undertaken new reforestation or degraded land restoration projects in Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Tunisia. In 2012, SK Forestr, in collaboration with the Korea Forest Service, launched South Korea's first UN CDM project in the forest sector in Goseong, Gangwon Province.
Since 2022, SK Forestry has signed a MOU regarding sustainable forest management with the government of Timor Leste to promote carbon enhancement and livelihood improvement through distribution of cookstoves to prevent deforestation, mangrove planting, coffee plantations, and agroforestry projects.
In addition to its forestry operations, SK Forest has landscape and cosmetics businesses as well, with all its activities aimed at reducing greenhouse gases and realizing green business through forests and trees.
