- Business Information The Busan Port Authority (BPA), established in January 2004 as Korea’s first port authority, handles an annual cargo volume of 24.4 million TEUs, making it the world’s seventh-largest port. This is supported by a global network that connects to over 500 ports in more than 150 countries. BPA plays a leading role as a global integrated port service provider in the hyperconnected era by operating the Busan New Port―a key transshipment hub for global shipping alliances―and the Busan North Port, which handles intra-Asia cargo, while also developing and managing hinterland complexes and expanding logistics networks across the U.S., Europe, and beyond. In 2023, BPA established its “2050 Net-zero Master Plan” to lay the groundwork for decarbonization in the port sector. In response to the IMO’s greenhouse gas regulations, BPA is expanding green marine fuel infrastructure and working toward energy self-sufficiency within the port, advancing a roadmap to become a truly sustainable global port.
